Curriculum
The Junior Cycle
The boys begin a three year course of study as laid out by the Department of Education and Science. The school provides a broad and balanced course of study in a range of curricular areas. The examination subjects include English, Irish, Mathematics, French, German, Science, Business Studies, History, Geography, Woodwork, Technical Graphics, Art, Music, C.S.P.E and Religious Education. Computing, S.P.H.E and Physical Education are also important parts of the curriculum. Students take all subjects in First Year and make choices for the Junior Certificate at the end of First Year.
To highlight the importance of academic achievement within the school, there are two sessions of examinations at the end of the Christmas and Summer terms.
The Senior Cycle
Building on the foundation of the Junior Cycle, the Senior Cycle aims to provide a comprehensive, high-quality learning environment which prepares individual students for further education or for immediate entry into the workplace. The boys follow a two year course of study in preparation for the Leaving Certificate Examination. This is a long established concluding examination of post-primary education and is the main basis upon which places in third-level institutes are allocated. Continuous assessment is carried out throughout each term to enable the school to monitor student progress. Effort and Commitment reports are posted to parents each month to keep parents/guardians up to date on their son’s progress
The school offers a broad range of subjects to cater for all student preferences. Subjects include Irish, English, Mathematics, French, German, History, Geography, Art, Music, Design Communication Graphics, Materials Technology (Wood), LCVP, Accounting, Business, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Ag Science and Biology.
