The Zambian Immersion Project is a scheme whereby eight pupils accompanied by teachers, spend two weeks in the town of Mulfilira in Northern Zambia. The purpose of the project is to raise awareness of Third World issues here at home as well as to raise much needed funds to aid the Christian Brothers with their charitable work in Zambia.

This is the third time the school has taken part in the project and two years ago we were able to donate over €30,000 to help build a medical centre in the village of Murundu. Murundu has a population of over 10,000 but up to this its inhabitants had no access to medical care.

The money raised this time around will help to fund a training centre where villagers learn trades such as carpentry, metalwork, tailoring and construction as well as funding an irrigation scheme which allows villagers to grow their own food. The pupils will be visiting an orphanage, AIDs hospice and old people's home while over there as well as assisting in a local primary school for street children in Mulfilira.
