Basketball has been a very popular sport in the CBS over recent years and continues to go from strength to strength, offering students a fast-paced, high-energy sport that builds confidence, teamwork, and a competitive mindset. The school competes in the Schools Basketball Ireland leagues at both Junior and Senior level, proudly playing in the prestigious ‘A’ division — the highest level of school basketball in the country.
Each year, our teams enter the Midlands League and Cup competitions, regularly facing top-level opposition from across the region. These fixtures provide valuable experience and consistently challenge our players to perform at their best. In recent seasons, both Junior and Senior squads have progressed through league stages and into knockout rounds, reflecting the high standard of play within the school.
The basketball programme at CBS Thurles is supported by dedicated coaches such as Niall Berry (U 18 Ireland Coach) and staff who bring expertise, encouragement, and structure to every training session. Our players commit to weekly practices and bring great pride to the court, representing the school with great determination and respect in every game.
