CBS Thurles is proud to have two dedicated ASD classrooms as part of our commitment to inclusive education. In line with the Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs Act 2004, we believe that every child is entitled to attend the school that is most suited to their overall needs.
Our aim is to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in fully participating in the life of the school, both socially and academically. We strive to create an inclusive environment where all students feel valued and supported as part of the CBS Thurles community.
Each ASD class caters for up to six students and provides a structured, supportive setting led by a specialist resource teacher and supported by Special Needs Assistants (SNAs). A holistic approach is taken in planning for each student’s individual learning journey. Following consultation with parents, professionals, and the student (where appropriate), a personalised education plan is developed. This plan addresses the student's educational, social, and sensory needs.
Students have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, delivered either in the special class setting or through integration into mainstream classes, depending on each individual’s needs and abilities. Support is flexible and responsive to ensure the best outcomes for every student.
The ASD classrooms (Learning Centre) at CBS Thurles includes two modern classrooms and a range of purpose-built facilities to support student development:
