Senior Cycle

Since its inception, CBS Thurles has earned and maintained its record for academic excellence. The curriculum at Senior Cycle level aims at providing an educational environment conducive to the on-going realisation of the full human development of each student during the student’s final years in CBS Thurles.

The school aims to help all students to achieve their true potential in academic and extra-curricular fields. Teaching and Learning in the school aims to help, stimulate and challenge each student. Moreover, this is supported by careful monitoring and regular reporting of each student. A committed and accomplished teaching staff with an optimum learning environment ensures that our students consistently set the standard in their chosen discipline.

As students approach Senior Cycle, it is vital that the choices are available to them that will allow progression along the chosen path.

Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP):

The LCVP is a Leaving Certificate with a focus on enterprise and preparation for working life. This two-year programme combines the academic strengths of the Leaving Certificate with a dynamic focus on self-directed learning, enterprise, work and the community. In most ways the LCVP is like the established Leaving Certificate. LCVP students take two additional courses, called Link Modules, in the areas of Preparation for the World of Work and Enterprise Education. Click here for more information.

Methods of Assessment

  • Continuous assessment in each subject throughout the year.
  • Christmas and Summer house examinations followed by school reports.
  • Leaving Certificate Examination at end of 6th Year (Mock Certificate exams in January/February)

My experience as a student at Thurles CBS has been really positive and rewarding. My time in school has helped me to develop, both as a student and as a person. It has set me on the right path towards third level and life beyond education itself. The school welcomed us with open arms back in first year, and the support continued all the way to the end of sixth year. The teachers always went out of their way to put the students first and make sure we were heading in the right direction. They always went the extra mile to make sure every topic was covered and all the students were up to scratch come exam time. The extracurricular activities always created a great atmosphere around the school. Whether it be on the hurling field, school show, or basketball court, the school always made sure to give everyone their full support. Thurles CBS is a great place for every student with teams and clubs for anything you could think of. I would definitely encourage any student who decides to attend the CBS to get involved and your time at the school will be a great one”
